The Star Wars Galaxies servers have officially been shut off in preparation for the massive launch of The Old Republic. I did QA on Galaxies for over a year from 2004-2005 and have some fond memories of the game. Actually, I wouldn’t even call it a game, but I WOULD call it a virtual world with plenty of dancing, blasters, and the occasional lightsaber. My main test character was a fat Trandoshan named Goobah who had a house on Tatooine. The only thing I cared about was maxing out his dancing skills which happened fairly quickly because you could just create a macro to loop various dance moves and let it run all night long.

There was a lot of stuff to do in the game, but most of it was pretty lame. Like the dungeons. Super lame. The most entertaining thing people did was get together, tell their droids to create lazer shows, and just dance.

This video gives you a good idea of what the experience was all about:

Goodbye, SWG. Thanks for the memories. You’ll sort of not really be missed.
